How to escape category comparison and become the obvious choice for a specific, expensive problem.
Category comparison is a tax
The moment a buyer opens three tabs and lists your features against two competitors, you enter a discount war you cannot win. Category design escapes the tab war.
The three-question test
Does your homepage headline name the category? Does it name the problem in the buyer’s language? Does it name what changes if they don’t solve it? If any answer is no, you are a commodity dressed in colour.
Building the category over 12 months
One flagship point of view essay per quarter. One naming asset per category term (a report, a framework, a scorecard). One founder podcast tour where you defend the category. Then every page, ad and case-study reinforces those anchors.
“A category of one is the only defensible position in a world where every product will be cloned in a weekend.”
